Senior Taliban commander detained in Kandahar

According to local officials in southern Afghanistan, a senior Taliban local commander was detained following a joint military operation by NATO-led International Security Assistance Force and Afghan security forces in southern Kandahar province.

The officials further added, the senior Taliban commander was detained along with six other insurgents in a joint military operation in Zherai district of southern Kandahar province on Friday night.
Provincial governor media department following a statement said, the operation was conducted in Kalak area of Zherai district on Friday night.

The statement further added, the detained Taliban commander was recognized as Mullah Nooruddin and was a key militants commander in Zherai district who was plotting insurgency activities and was organizing roadside bomb attacksagainst the Afghan and NATO-led coalition forces and in this province.

The statement also said, Afghan civilians did not suffer any casualty during the operation.
