3 dead in NATO convoy attack in Farah

FARAH CITY (PAN): Two Taliban fighters and a guard were killed after a convoy of trucks, carrying supplies for NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), came under attack in western Farah province, officials said on Sunday.

One of the guards escorting the convoy was killed and two fuel tankers were torched during the assault that took place late Saturday in the Bakwa district, a police officer said.

Col. Abdul Rauf Ahmadi said the convoy was on its way from western Herat province to southern Helmand, when they came under attack from the rebels. Two attackers and one guard were killed, while the second guard was wounded, he said.

However, Qari Yosuf Ahmadi, Taliban spokesman, claimed five guards were killed and several tankers were destroyed in the incident.

Another four guards were injured and two vehicles, and several AK-47 assault rifles were seized by the fighters, he added.
