R.I.P. - Spc. Alex Hernandez III

DOD Identifies Army Casualty

            The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

            Spc. Alex Hernandez III, 21, of Round Rock, Texas, died May 12, in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

            Hernandez was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment, 25th Combat Aviation Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, Wheeler Army Airfield, Hawaii.

According to the the 25th Combat Aviation Brigade, Hernandez was found unresponsive in his room, the incident is under investigation.

Hernandez joince the Army in July 2009 and most recently served as a Door Gunner.
Before he came to Hawaii, he was a Test Equipment Operator and attended Basic Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

Spc. Hernandez's awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, and an Aviator Badge.

Hernandez is survived by his wife Tyasia Pompy.
