5 Taliban, 2 civilians killed in Ghazni security operation

GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Five Taliban fighters and two civilians were killed during a joint security operation conducted by the Afghan and coalition forces in southern Ghazni province, officials said on Monday.

The incident happened on Sunday night when Afghan and the International Security Assistance Force launched the operation in Qazi Qala area on the outskirts of Ghazni City, the provincial capital of Ghazni, a National Directorate of Security official said on condition of anonymity.

Mohammad Ali Ahmadi, the deputy governor, revealed the Taliban fighters were killed in retaliatory firings after Taliban attacked the security personnel.

A woman and an elderly man also died in the two-hour long clash, he said.

Authorities seized five motorcycles, a large quantity of weapons and ammunitions belonging to the militants, added Ahmadi.
