Taliban attack Afghan and US troops in Wardak province

Afghan National Army troops and their partnered U.S. Special Forces were ambushed by insurgents in Wardak Province, October 29.

The ANA and USSF conducted a tactical ground movement through Nerkh District for a routine assessment of Afghan Local Police checkpoints.

Partnered Forces were attacked by small-arms fire and rocket propelled grenades by more than a dozen insurgents. The partnered forces returned fire resulting in three insurgents killed.

Special Operations Task Force – East Commander, Lieutenant Col. Christopher J. Fox said, “While security increases in the area, the Taliban are scrambling to regain control. They continue to put innocent lives at risk. We are standing by our partnered forces to protect the people of Nerkh and all of Wardak Province.”

No civilian or Afghan National Security Forces were injured or killed during the engagement.

Taliban militants group yet to comment regarding the report.
