11 armed insurgents killed in Faryab and Logar provinces

Counterterrorism:
Afghan National Police launched an independent operation in the Khowaja Kenti village, Qisar District of Faryab province.

As a result of this operation, three armed insurgents were killed and two others arrested with amount of weapons by Afghan National Police.

In a separate operation, Afghan National Police (Special Units) launched an operation in the Almar District of Faryab province.

As a result, three armed insurgents were killed.

Also, during this operation, Afghan National Police discovered and confiscated one suicide vest and three different types of weapons.

Additionally, five armed insurgents were killed and two others were wounded by their own explosives while they attempted to fire a mortar round on residential area in the Dowshanba village, Braki District of Logar province.

May 14, 2012. - ISAF Joint Command Morning Operational Update

KABUL, Afghanistan (May 14) — An Afghan-led security force supported by coalition troops detained a Taliban facilitator during an operation in Kandahar district, Kandahar province, today.
The facilitator supplied weapons, ammunition and equipment to insurgents for attacks against Afghan and coalition troops in Kandahar City.

He was also planning an attack against a district center and was plotting to assassinate a district governor.

The security force detained one additional insurgent during the operation.

In Yosuf Khel district, Paktika province, an Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation to detain a Haqqani leader today. The leader plans and directs attacks against Afghan government officials, Afghan security forces and civilians. Two insurgents were detained as a result of this operation.

An Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation to detain a Haqqani leader in Pul-e ‘Alam district, Logar province, today. The leader directs roadside bombings against Afghan and coalition security forces throughout the province. He also coordinates the delivery of explosive device materials to build roadside bombs. Multiple suspected insurgents were detained during the operation.

In Khugyani district, Nangarhar province, an Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation to detain a Taliban facilitator today. The facilitator coordinates roadside bombs attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces in the district. The security force detained two suspected insurgents and seized one rifle, grenades, and more than 500 rounds of small arms ammunition.

Finally, Afghan and coalition forces conducted a security operation in search of a Haqqani leader in Sarobi district, Paktika province, Friday. The Haqqani leader organizes indirect fire attacks and other operations against Afghan and coalition forces throughout the district. After positively identifying insurgents preparing for a suicide bomb attack in an isolated area and ensuring no civilians were in the vicinity, the security force conducted a precision airstrike against the insurgent position, killing multiple insurgents. A follow-on assessment of the area determined no civilians were harmed and no civilian property was damaged. Multiple rocket-propelled grenade launchers, AK-47's and explosives were recovered from the site.
