LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Twin blasts which targeted police in Musa Qala district of Helmand province, 555 km south of kabul, left four police dead on Wednesday, spokesman for provincial administration Daud Ahmadi said.

"The first blast in the shape of roadside bombing took place in Musa Qala bazaar at around 10:30 a.m. local time, fortunately caused no loss of life, but unfortunately the second blast which happened in a span of few minutes in Landi Nawi village of Musa Qala claimed the lives of four policemen," Ahmadi told Xinhua.

He blamed the enemies of peace, a term used against Taliban militants for organizing the attacks. However, the outfit has yet to make comment.

Similar attack against police in the northern Kunduz province on the same day Wednesday killed three policemen and injured three others.

Five al-Qaida members escape from Yemeni jail

SANAA, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Up to five al-Qaida operatives escaped from a Yemeni prison on Tuesday, the country's official Saba news agency reported.

"Five detainees of the al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) managed early Tuesday to flee from the prison of the political security agency in the country's northwestern port city of al- Hodayda," Saba quoted a provincial security official as saying.

Several members of the Yemeni al-Qaida offshoot were recently either captured or hunted by the Yemeni security authorities after a U.S.-backed offensive in the southern Abyan province routed the militants out of their strongholds they controlled for nearly a year during a security vacuum in the country.

Saba did not provide further details about how the terrorist prisoners escaped, but a security official told Xinhua that "they escaped the highly-guarded jail through a 30-meter-long tunnel they dug from their cell to a nearby cemetery."

The incident came two days after 10 al-Qaida suspects escaped from a prison in the southern port city of Aden.

Combating al-Qaida militants in the restive south is one of the challenges confronting current Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, who has promised to launch a national dialogue to settle disputes among all political factions and uproot the Yemeni branch of al-Qaida.

Bombings in Baghdad leave 11 dead

At least 11 people have been killed in two separate bomb attacks in and around Iraq's capital Baghdad, officials say.

The first bomb was detonated outside a house in Wahda, a south-eastern suburb. There are conflicting reports about whether the owners were Shia or Sunni.

Nobody was hurt, but minutes later, as locals gathered at the scene, a second bomb exploded, killing eight people.

Three people died in the second attack, which targeted another house, this time in the northern Ghazaliya district.

The attacks were the latest in a particularly bloody month, as the Iraqi government struggles to maintain security.

At least 183 people have reportedly been killed since 13 June - already 51 more than the death toll for May, according to official figures.

Most of the recent attacks have targeted the majority Shia community and have been blamed on Sunni militants linked to al-Qaeda in Iraq.

ASADABAD (PAN): Two more people were injured after missiles fired by Pakistani forces hit southern Kunar province of Afghanistan, officials said on Wednesday.

More than 50 missiles landed in Dangam district of the province, injuring two people and damaging properties, the governor’s spokesman Washifullah Wasifi told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The missiles are fired by Pakistani forces on the bordering areas of the district, he said.

Almost 130 missiles were aimed at the area from outside the Durand line that created security chaos for people and many forced to migrate from the area, said Nisar Ahmad, a local resident.

He asked the government to stop the missile strikes from the neighbouring country and help the displaced people.

Gunmen storm pro-government Syrian TV channel - state TV

(Reuters) - Gunmen stormed the headquarters of a pro-government Syrian TV news channel on Wednesday morning, planted explosives and killed three employees, state media said.

"The terrorists planted explosive devices in the headquarters of al-Ikhbariya following their ransacking of the satellite channel studios, including the newsroom which was entirely destroyed," the state media said.

"Three colleagues were killed as a result of the brutal terrorist attack," it added, without giving details.

The Syrian press is tightly regulated by the Ministry of Information. Although Ikhbariya is privately owned, opponents of President Bashar al-Assad say it is a government mouthpiece.

During the 16-month-old pro-democracy revolt against the Assad family's four-decade rule, Ikhbariya has been pushing to counter what it says is a campaign of misinformation by western and Arab satellite channels on the uprising, which it describes as a foreign-backed terrorist conspiracy.

Ikhbariya resumed broacasting shortly after the attack.
