21 Taliban killed, seven wounded and 12 arrested by Afghan National Police

Counterterrorism:
During the past 24 hours, Afghan National Police, Afghan National Army, NDS and Coalition Forces launched six joint clearance operations in Balkh, Zabul, Ghazni, Paktiya, Herat and Helmand provinces.

As a result of these operations, 21 Taliban were killed, seven wounded and 12 others were arrested by Afghan National Police.

Also, during these operations, Afghan National Police discovered and confiscated four rocket launchers, two PKM machine guns, seven AK-47 assault rifles with 40 magazines, 10 heavy rounds, four different types of mines, 13 hand grenades, 2kg explosive materials, two suicide vests and two motorcycles.

Meanwhile, Afghan National Police discovered and defused two anti-personnel mines a as a result of security operation in the Farkhar District of Takhar province, yesterday.
Crimes:
The 101 Kabul Zone National Police detained seven individuals accused of theft and assault in the Deh Sabz, 7th and 8th Districts of Kabul-City.

Suicide bombers target Somali constitution conference

MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Somali security forces shot dead a would-be suicide bomber who tried to attack the venue of a national conference on a draft constitution, while a second attacker blew himself up, injuring six officers, police said on Wednesday.

"The two bombers wore government uniform. Six policemen were injured," Colonel Mohamed Ali, a police officer told Reuters.

"One jumped over a wall opposite the conference building but he was shot dead outside the gate. Then another bomber jumped from another wall and his bomb exploded where government soldiers stood."

Suicide bombers target constitutional assembly meeting in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, August 1 (Xinhua) -- Two Suicide bomber targets Somalia's National Constituent Assembly meeting in Mogadishu on Wednesday, wounding several people at the convention expected to vote on a draft constitution for the country, police said.

"One of two men forced his way into a checkpoint at the entrance of the venue and was shot and he exploded while the other blew himself up at the vicinity of the venue. A number of people were wounded," police officer Abdi Nur told Xinhua.

Blast kills senior police officer in southern Afghan city

GHAZNI, Afghanistan, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- A remote-controlled bomb blast claimed the life of a senior police officer in Ghazni city, the capital of Ghazni province, 125 km south of capital city Kabul on Tuesday night, spokesman for provincial administration Fazal Rahman Sabawon said Wednesday.

"Unknown men planted a remote-controlled bomb near the gate of the house of Nasrullah Andar, the deputy police of third precinct in Ghazni city, last night and when he was going home from mosque it exploded killing him on the spot," Sabawon told Xinhua.

Two of his sons were injured in the blast, he added.

He put the attack on the enemies of peace, a term used against the Taliban by government officials. However, the outfit has yet to comment.

NATO airstrike kill 4 mine planters in Wardak province

According to local authorities in Maidan Wardak province of Afghanistan, at least five suspected militants who were planting roadside improvised explosive device were killed following a NATO air raid in this province.

The officials further added at least one more insurgent was also injured during the airstrike while they were planting explosives in Nerkh district on Tuesday night.

The suspected militants who were killed during the airstrike were recognized as Hazratullah, Shukrullah, Qam and Ainullah and are the residents of Ibrahim Khel area while the fifth militant who was injured during the attack was recognized yet, local officials said.

Taliban militants group yet to comment regarding the reports.

August 01., 2012. - ISAF Joint Command Morning Operational Update

KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a senior Taliban leader in Tarnak wa Jaldak district, Zabul province, during an operation yesterday.

The senior Taliban leader organized a complex improvised explosive device network responsible for multiple IED attacks in the region. He was also responsible for directing suicide bombings, and for planning and executing multiple attacks against Afghan security forces and civilians throughout the district.

The arrest of the senior Taliban leader came as the result of information provided to Afghan and coalition troops by insurgents formerly under his control who had been detained by Afghan and coalition troops during a previous operation.

In other International Security Assistance Force news throughout Afghanistan:

North

In Chimtal district, Balkh Province, yesterday, commandos from the 3rd Company, 5th Special Operations Kandak, supported by coalition troops, conducted an operation to arrest a senior Taliban leader. The leader is responsible for multiple attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. During the operation, the security force detained several suspected insurgents.

An Afghan and coalition security force detained two suspected Taliban insurgents and seized several explosives during an operation in Pul-e Khurmi district, Baghlan province, today. The Afghan and coalition troops discovered a cache of improvised explosive device components and ammunition while searching the compound of a suspected Taliban leader.

South

An Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation to arrest a Taliban leader in Zharay district, Kandahar province, today. During the operation, a group of armed insurgents attacked the Afghan and coalition troops. The security force engaged the insurgents and killing several of them. After the engagement, the security force detained multiple suspected insurgents.

In Shorabak district, Kandahar province, yesterday, an Afghan and coalition security force conducted a counter-narcotics operation. As a result of the operation, the combined force seized 1080 kilograms (2381 pounds) of hashish and detained two suspected narcotics traffickers. The drugs were destroyed on site.

East

In Muhammad Aghah district, Logar province, an Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation in search of a Haqqani leader yesterday. During the operation, the security force engaged a heavily armed group of insurgents with a precision airstrike. After the strike, the combined force conducted a post-strike assessment and confirmed several of the armed insurgents had been killed. They also confirmed the strike had not injured any civilians or damaged any civilian property.

An Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation to arrest a Haqqani leader in Muhammad Aghah district, Logar province, today. During the operation, the security force engaged a group of insurgents preparing to attack them and forced the insurgents to retreat. After the engagement, the security force detained two suspected insurgents.

An Afghan and coalition security force detained numerous suspected insurgents during and operation in search of a Haqqani leader in Sabari district, Khost province, today. The Haqqani leader is directly involved in purchasing weapons and coordinating attacks against Afghan and coalition forces throughout the district

July 31., 2012. - RC-East operational update

BAGRAM, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition forces killed two insurgents, detained three, located two weapons caches and cleared seven improvised explosive devices during operations in eastern Afghanistan throughout the past 24 hours, Aug. 1.

Ghazni province
Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces discovered a weapons cache in Andar district. The cache contained items being used to construct IEDs.

A coalition airstrike killed two insurgents in Andar district in who were emplacing IEDs.

Khowst province
Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces found and safely cleared four IEDs, two in Sabari district, one in Terezayi district and one in Khowst district.

Laghman province
Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces found and safely cleared an IED in Mehtar Lam district.

Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces detained an insurgent while investigating a weapons cache in Dowlat Shah district. The cache contained mines and mortar rounds. The detained suspect was transferred to a base for questioning.

Logar province
Afghan National Army soldiers and coalition forces detained two insurgents who were found in possession of IED making materials in Muhammad Aghah district. The detained suspects were transferred to a base for questioning.

Paktiya province
Afghan National Army soldiers and coalition forces found and safely cleared an IED in Dzadran district.

Wardak province
Afghan National Army soldiers and coalition forces found and safely cleared an IED in Sayyidabad district.

Operations in RC-East are still ongoing.
