15 rebels eliminated in Paktika airstrike

SHARAN (PAN): Fifteen rebels were killed during an airstrike by foreign troops in the Orgun district of southeastern Paktika province, officials said on Thursday.

An Afghan National Army (ANA) base came under Taliban attack in Manikando area late on Wednesday, a spokesman for the 203rd Thunder Military Corps, Samiullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) bombarded the rebels after the Afghan army sought air support from it. Weapons and ammunitions were also seized from the fighters.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said eight US soldiers were killed or wounded when their tank struck a roadside bomb in Khoshamand district.

Separately, one insurgent was killed and two others were detained during an operation by foreign troops in the Khogyani district of eastern Nangarhar province, police spokesman Hazrat Husain Mashriqiwal said.

A statement from the ISAF media office in east confirmed the operation. It said the offensive was carried by a special force from Kabul.

Nov. 08., 2012. - ISAF Joint Command Morning Operational Update

KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban leader in Logar province today.

The arrested leader was believed to be behind planning for indirect fire attacks on Afghan and coalition forces and led several indirect fire attacks on Forward Operating Base Shank in the province.

The security force also detained two suspected insurgents.

In other International Security Assistance Force news throughout Afghanistan:

South
An Afghan and ISAF partnered force seized over three dozen one-liter bottles filled with homemade explosives primed with detonating cord and a number of pressure plates during a combined dismounted patrol in Helmand province Tuesday. All items were destroyed at the location.

East

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban facilitator in Nangarhar province today. As the security force approached the Taliban facilitator’s location, two armed insurgents attacked the combined force with small-arms fire. The security force returned fire, killing one armed insurgent and wounding the second. The arrested facilitator enabled the distribution of weapons, ammunition, improvised explosive devices and suicide vests for use in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. The security force also arrested two suspected insurgents and seized several grenades and an assault-style rifle with associated gear and ammunition.

Nov. 08., 2012. - RC-East operational update

BAGRAM, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition forces killed eight insurgents, detained two and cleared an improvised explosive device during operations in eastern Afghanistan throughout the past 24 hours, Nov. 7.

Ghazni Province
Afghan National Army soldiers and coalition forces killed five insurgents and detained two during an engagement in Andar District.

Kunar Province
Afghan National Army soldiers and coalition forces killed an insurgent during an engagement in Pul-E Alam District.

Nangarhar Province
Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces found and safely cleared an IED in Shinwar District.

Paktika Province
A coalition airstrike killed two insurgents in Giyan District in response to Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces receiving indirect fire.

Operations in RC-East are still ongoing.
